A celebration in planning

Imagine a downtown decked out in vertical, not horizontal red, white and blue strips for the Fourth of July. That's right—Racine is ready to share a day that celebrates American history with its French sister Montélimar, France.

The Racine-Montélimar Sister Cities planning committee is laying the ground work for a 2006/2007 combined celebration of Sister Cities International's 50th anniversary and 50 years of Racine and Montélimar sharing cultures and celebrating friends. Our friends from Montélimar will visit Racine over the Fourth of July, 2006. A delegation from Racine will complete the exchange, with a visit to Montélimar in the summer of 2007.

About 50 Montélimar residents are expected to attend the 2006 celebration in Racine, including a number of the cities dignitaries. Racine area residents can get in on the celebration by serving as a host family, working on a planning committee, contributing dollars to help fund the celebration or by attending any of the scheduled activities.
